My name is Stephen. I’ve had the great joy of living – what seems like- multiple lives. I’ve had the great privilege and exciting opportunity to work in thriving and rewarding ventures. In each case, I’ve worked alongside a few brilliant minds, who demonstrated the greatest qualities of craftsmanship, resourcefulness, determination, and affection for their work. These ventures and colleagues have made me largely who I am today: someone who desires to be great at my craft, and bring benefit to all who hold stake in my endeavors.
What is this site about?
I enjoy thinking about ideas such as “quality,” “excellence,” “craftsmanship,” and “character.” I’ve watched those working in the trade services do everything their customer asked, and do so in an efficient, effective, and excellent manner. I’ve watched as their work enriches the lives of others. And I’ve thought how great it would be to bring the same to my particular work as a software engineer.
No doubt, to do so, takes time and practice. But time and practice alone isn’t enough. I could develop terrible practices for a long time and never achieve the qualities and craftsmanship I seek. There is something missing in the equation.
This site is about that something missing in the equation: knowledge and character. I hope to write about the knowledge I’m picking up along the way on my journey to becoming a master craftsman in software engineering. But not just knowledge, but other qualities that build character and make a difference in more than just my bank account.
I hope you find something interesting and helpful here. Enjoy!
